Swing Dance classes

SwingStateLondon

Dance with everyone and anyone in South West London!

Hello, dancers!

We are a dance school who run Lindy Hop classes for Beginners and Intermediates at the Lantern Arts Centre in Raynes Park, London, UK. Classes are on Wednesday evenings. Your teachers are Dawn and Moh (read more about us on 'The Team' page). Scroll down to see the dates of our classes, and RSVP so we know who is coming, especially if you are new.
SwingState classes are small and bespoke to our students. We specialise in teaching our students how to social dance properly with anybody on the global lindy hop scene. Our students enjoy performing for their friends and family at least once a year. We love making friends, travelling to dance events together and want everyone to rejoice in their own bodies through dance.
Come and join our community!

SAVOY 100 dance project

The savoy ballroom opened on March 12th 1926.

It was a centerpiece of Harlem culture and a place where African American artistic expression was given space to flourish, it was sadly torn down in 1959.

On this day, 12th March 2026, we take a moment to celebrate the amazing people who brought this dance to life. It is because of their hard work and creativity that we are able to come together now, continuing to enjoy and appreciate it 100 years later.

It is also important to remember that there were challenges along the way. The people of Harlem were told that when the Savoy Ballroom was taken down, something new would be built in its place, but that never happened. This was not just about losing a building, for many years those in power tried to push African American families out of their homes and communities in New York City. But they continued to stand strong and proud.

Here in London the Lindy Hop scene celebrates diversity. There was a time where London felt divided but we are using this as an opportunity to come together.  #LondonUnite

A collaboration of different dance schools, this video was put together by a small group of dancers in just over a week.  People took time out of their schedules to show how important it is to celebrate the history of this dance and to honour all those who came before us- To keep the spirit alive.
